How can I register for the Competition ?
According to the regulation of the Competition, in order to register, you need to make a bank transfer of Euro 50,00 in the bank account n. 00000017813C at Banca Antoniana Popolare Veneta, Pordenone branch, ( IBAN : IT35L050401250000000017813C, BIC : ANTBIT2P43P ) made out to Isola del Fiume S.r.l. – Competition of Ideas and send us the data of the bank deposit choosing one of the following methods: 1) by e-mail, entering our web site www.fiumeveneto.com and selecting the voice Registration, you will find a registration form to fill in with your data and the data of the bank deposit to be inserted in the proper space; 2) sending a copy of the receipt for payment of the registration fee by fax or post together with your personal data.
How should I make the deposit?
The payment of Euro 50,00 on the c/c 00000017813C can be made by bank transfer. It is not possible to use credit cards. For applicants of foreign countries, a traveller’s cheque of Euro 50,00 signed in both places provided can be also used and sent us with registered letter.
What are the titles and qualifications to participate in the Competition?
The condition required to participate in the Competition of Ideas is to be qualified to practising as architect or engineer in your country.
Which is the procedure for the assignment of the task to the Competition winner?
After the evaluation of the projects received, the Jury will write out a pass-list: 3 prizes will be shared out, as from the percentage quoted in the regulation of the Competition, among the first three classified and a refund of expenses will be given to the three partecipants classified from the 4° to 6° place. Among the first three classified, as a result of a negotiated procedure, the most suitable project for the requirements worded in the announcement will be chosen. To the winner of the competition will be assigned the task to draw up the Master Plan. The agreement for this assignment will be regulated according to the Italian law in force on the matter. The prize will not be deducted from the fee.
When can I receive the technical information to start my project?
If you register for the Competition, the card with the technical information and data will be sent to you by post as from 13th of December 2003, closing date for the registrations. At the same time the documents will also be available in our web site www.fiumeveneto.com using an access key we will send you (by e-mail if you supply us with your e-mail address).
What do Isola del Fiume and the Municipal Administration of Fiume Veneto want to develop in the area devoted to the new project?
The project should develop what has been asked in the art. 3 of the announcement of the competition. In particular, the following functions must be included:
- housing and relative services/shops,
- housing and social housing for self-sufficient senior citizens with relative services,
- hydroelectric power station,
- square with a monument to the Sailor,
- civic centre: town hall of about 2,300 m2 with spaces for civic life,
- museum,
- auditorium seating 400-500,
- recreational and sports structures,
- river park.
You will have more information from the technical card we will send you, if you register, as from 13th of Dicember 2003.
Where can I find useful information on the social and economic structure of Fiume Veneto?

Will the industrial building be pulled down?
The announcement of the competition expects the preservation of the most significant parts of the building with the transformation of the destinations of use. It expects the substitution of the most recent parts and those with the minimum value from the architectural point of view. You will receive more indications with the card we will send you as from 13th of Dicember 2003.
What does the technical card consist of?
Once you have ordered the bank transfer and sent your data to the competition secretary’s office, your enrolment will be duly registered. You must then wait until 13th December 2003, the registration closing date. On this date we will send you an access key, by e-mail, allowing you to download the technical material directly from our site; this will be sent to you by post at the same time. You will have at your disposal the maps with all the area perimeters, a report, the cadastral plans and a survey of the buildings including plans and reports.
Which buildings are to be restored?
The official competition documentation, which will be sent to you, will outline instructions concerning the buildings to be preserved or demolished. However, the location of facilities will be at the complete discretion of each participant, in his/her proposed plan, which must include development of the 100,000 m2 area owned by Isola del Fiume.
Financial program
Works undertaken by the Municipal Admistration (Commune) will be at the complete expense of the Municipal Admistration and will not be part of the financial program. These are as follows:
- Civic Centre - Town Hall - the Sailor Monument
- Auditorium
- Museum of Arts and Crafts
- Car parks outside the area serving public infrastructures
- One of the two mechanical access bridges with related road network.

The following intervention work is to be charged to the Private developer:
- Free conveyance of the areas and any existing buildings for the implementation of the previously listed public works
- Implementation of infrastructures
  • A vehicle bridge and related road network
  • A pedestrian passageway
  • The square
  • Car parks inside the area of intervention and those planned close to the existing bridge
  • Rebuilding the bridge
  • Internal road network
    Costs related to the above-listed intervention to be charged to the private dveloper are estimated at Euro 4.100.000,00. These costs and the purchase cost equal to Euro 4.250.000,00 after VAT are both to be considered as the costs in the financial program.
    • When can the site be visited?
    Inspection of the site is planned for Friday 19th December 2003, from 9.00am to 12.00 noon. The calendar that the competition is based on requires strict adherence to this date. It will not be possible, therefore, to visit the site on any other occasion. The competition coordinator will be present at the inspection to deal with any questions from participants. To guarantee equal opportunity and treatment, a summary will be made of the visit in which all the subjects covered on site will be reported. This will then be sent to all those enrolled in the competition (see art. 13 and art. 14).
    How can I get to the site?
    From Pordenone
    The area is located in the centre of Fiume Veneto (Pordenone). Follow the Strada Statale 13 (main road) from Pordenone to Udine, after the bridge over the river Meduna, you will get to a large roundabout where you will see signs for Fiume Veneto. Go on towards the centre of the town and just after the bridge over the river Fiume you will see a large gate on the right. This is the main entrance to the area of the old cotton mill (Piazza Marconi 47). From the motorway
    At Portogruaro head in the direction of Pordenone, at Cimpello go towards Spilimbergo and exit at Fiume Veneto. Go straight on for about 1 Km and after crossing the bridge, you will find the area on the right.

    In the event of group work, when will the names of its members have to be supplied?
    In the enrolment phase it is not necessary to state all members of the group. The participants’ details must be sent according to the procedures provided in Art. 16 - “Anonymity” concerning the competition announcement, that is, in a sealed envelope attached to the devised plans.
    When will the projects have to be delivered?
    The developed plans must be sent or delivered by 07.04.2004 and must arrive by and not later than 13th April 2004; under no circumstances will they be accepted after this date (see art. 18).

    There are two possibilities:
    1) Deliver the project by 12.00 on 7/04/2004.
    2) Send the project by post or express carrier by 7/04/2004 with the latest receiving date of 13/04/2004.
    It is preferable if the projects arrive by 7/04/2004 in order not to risk being excluded from the competition, thus avoiding a last minute rush.
